Job Summary

Corrections Officer- Florida State Certified

Job Summary

This class involves work in maintaining the security, health and welfare of inmates confined to the Charlotte County direct supervision jail. The work involves responsibility for guarding inmates in accord with established policies, regulations, and procedures. Duties include walking a post within the jail, booking, and classifying prisoners, dispensing food, prescription medications, and canteen items. Work involves transporting prisoners to court, medical appointments, work details and other facilities; supervising work details and exercise sessions; and keeping records and logs on prisoners as required. Unusual or difficult situations are referred to supervisors for action or guidance. This position requires shift work including weekends, holidays and overtime, 12-hour shifts in a 24/hour facility. This position is considered essential under the CCSO Emergency Plan. Work is performed under supervision of a Corrections Corporal and is reviewed for results and compliance with established rules, regulations, and procedures.

Special Assignment

Job Summary

This class involves law enforcement work protecting the public and preserving the peace while serving in a variety of assignments within the Sheriff's Office. School Crossing Guard Part-Time

Job Summary

This class is a part time position during the school year. The school crossing guard regulates, directs and controls school-aged children at a designated school crossing while they are going to and from school past such intersections. Warrant Officer (Aviation)

Special Assignment

This position involves piloting of the CCSO aviation helicopters. Position incumbent interfaces with federal and state agencies on matters concerning aviation issues. Assist direct supervisor to develop operation plans and to coordinate with outside law enforcement agencies. Assignments are received in the form of broad policy statements. They must be capable of working as part of a two-man team or solo in the dynamic low altitude environment. They must be able to operate in day, night, NVG and IMC conditions. They must also be well versed in the law enforcement part of the mission, operating highly specialized observation, tracking, navigation, and communications equipment. They are primarily responsible for acting as Pilot-in-Command on all assigned missions. Work is performed under direction of the Chief Warrant Officer.
